A joyful reminder

During the government shutdown, I found ways to become more creative.

Leaning into my craft.

Creating - instead of wallowing in doubt and fear of the unknown.

Praying - instead of relying on myself or the circumstances around me.

If this whole event has taught me anything, it taught me to lean in on the people who care about me. To love on them, check in on them, and be open and honest about my circumstances. I often tell the ones around me that “I have got this,” and “it will all be okay, it’s just a season,” while I am literally over in a corner in shambles.

Through the shutdown, I kept saying yes to things that scare me. Photoshoots with fiery flames, seniors, maternity, farmhouse chicken coops, secret garden birthdays, and all things love.

This financial scare was a heavy reminder that nothing is promised, and nothing in this world is secure. I told my good friend this statement today, and she corrected me.

She said “nothing in this world is secure, except for Christ.”That was powerful, and it resonated hard with me. Convicted me. At the time of our conversation, I had just finished a photoshoot with her son for his senior photos.

We wrapped up, and I drove home. On my thirty minute ride home, I reflected on that statement, and I reflected on the day.

I remember looking at this senior, and his face was so full of light. Hope & excitement.

We rode in his truck to one of the photoshoot locations, and he told me he was planning to join the Marines. A huge commitment and dedication to something bigger than himself.

Just light. Pure light. Days like this remind me of what life was like as a teenager and child. Hope filled my veins in those years. Possibility & passion became a part of my willingness to make the world a better place.

Somewhere along the way, I misplaced my security. I relied on the world to fulfill my needs, to validate these feelings.

In the photoshoot, we painted the scene with light from all directions. Framed by the sky, a truck, country roads, grit and soul. Sweet reminders that God is Our Creator.

These sunsets that never look the same.

Miracles that come after the prayers.

Money that hits the bank account when you least expected it.

Perfect sun flares, captured frozen in time with just one single click of a camera.

Light is warmth. & happiness. & closure. & future.

We are secure in Our Creator. We are secure in Our Maker.

We are secure in Christ.
